From the massive commercial and infrastructure development programmes in the CBD to major tunneling project in the transportation sector from North to South, Underground, Overground (and wandering free) Auckland has been a hive of commercial construction activity for over a year now and, before then, residential developments started 2 years before that. We are also seeing a rise in flexible working as inner city practices look to contractors to meet specific project needs.
Architectural activity is often the indicator of future construction and, as a major player in this sector, we are seeing a huge demand for CAD-savvy design staff to crunch the work out.
The Winners.
Design, Planning and Engineering Professionals able to hit the ground running and move quickly to play an active role in complex and often fast-moving projects. Auckland has more management-focused roles and with more manegers around, there is also a significant opportunity to be noticed for your efforts.
The Losers:
There are not many capable professionals in the Engineering, Architecture and Environmental sectors for whom there would not be a job right now. Especially in the big city, those new to NZ building codes, structural standards and interios styles can find it hard to get a start. Travel is more of a thing than before as we have had more requests from people looking for something closer to home to avoid sitting in traffic.
