Christchurch

Described by Lonely Planet as "re-emerging as one of New Zealand's most exciting cities", the earthquake which hit the city on 22 February 2010 has resulted in over 1200 commercial buildings being demolished.

We recruit for technical roles across New Zealand - check out our vacancies!

Being one of the very few specialist technical recruitment companies actually based in the central city, it's a huge part of our world and we are often asked for our advice on relocation, the first steps, accommodation, house prices, schools and amenities.

There's a lot going on in Christchurch...

Christchurch is the second largest city in New Zealand and with the city getting back on its feet from all the earthquakes, there is a real buzz in town. There are cranes on the skyline, tourists looking around, pop-up bars and shops doing a busy trade, coffee caravans camped around the red zone. There is a new retail district called Re-START, it is in our city centre with all the container retail shops available for you to shop till you drop. On either side of the city, you have the hills – great for mountain biking, the beaches for surfing and the magnificent Southern Alps, about 1 ½ hours away, fantastic for skiing or snowboarding.

We believe Christchurch is the right place and time for experienced professionals. With major construction projects in the full flow, the opportunities are here now. There has never been a better time to move with 2016 bringing unprecedented activity.

For relocation and immigration please refer to our Relocation section or for further specific enquiries please see below:

Accommodation: There are plenty of housing options in Christchurch, if you are looking to purchase or rent a property in Christchurch some good places to search are Trade Me and Real Estate NZ. These websites also have search options for boarding and temporary accomodation. If you are looking for accomodation for just yourself while you are working in Christchurch, their are specific websites dedicated to contractor and Christchurch Rebuild accomodation. ContractAccom is a one stop place to look at and it has a few different options to choose from.

If you are looking for a workers apartment - a very popular place to consider is The Pods (see picture to the left) they are made from 20 foot shipping containers and are available in different parts of Canterbury.

Rebuild Christchurch has some interesting and detailed information on workers accomodation and any other information surrounding the Christchurch Rebuild.

Schools: Finding the right schools for your children can be a tough decision but there are a few things to consider first. Do you know what suburb you will be living in? Do you want a private or public school? Although some schools may still be listed, you also need to keep in mind that some are no longer open after the earthquakes. Ministry of Education is a good place to start - it has all the school education reviews and closures from the earthquakes.
